A new six year study into coastal adaptation has been launched in Thailand, following the concerns of His Majesty the King about the impact of global warming on climate and sea levels. Coordinated by the Thailand Marine and Coastal Resources Department, the group will involve experts from the South-east Asia START Regional Centre at Chulalongkorn University, the Navy and the Mineral Resources and Meteorological departments. The key foci will be on coastal erosion.
Given that many resorts and leisure developments are dependent upon coastal amenity, the results of this study will be critical for tourism investment and planning for future development.Â
Deputy Prime Minister Paiboon Wattanasiritham approved and will propose to the Cabinet an Agriculture Ministry plan for farming to cope with global warming. It includes climate-change information management and solutions and a publicity campaign with farmer participation.
Â
The Army continue to do much to help reduce the effects of global warming. This includes growing trees around bases and building weirs. Officers are active in projects in the North and Northeast.
Â
The Army is campaigning for energy-saving measures at its bases while cooperating with private companies such as PTT and Siam Cement Group.
