The China Daily has reported that China’s environment agency is to use fiscal controls to target environmental polluters. In a strongly worded statement the head of the environment agency has also signalled further credit controls may be imposed. Tax, insurance and stock market regulations linked to environmental performance are also being considered.

In a second action targeted against party officials and government employees, promotions are to be tied to environmental records.
