The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) the world’s leading authority on political-military conflict have released the IISS Strategic Survey 2007.
See http://www.iiss.org/
The report states that “the most recent international moves towards combating global warming represent a recognition . that if the emission of greenhouse gases . is allowed to continue unchecked, the effects will be catastrophic - on the level of nuclear war,
It further states that “Even if the international community succeeds in adopting comprehensive and effective measures to mitigate climate change, there will still be unavoidable impacts from global warming on the environment, economies and human security.”"
This report in line with other recent US, NATO, EU, Chinese and geo-strategic assessments suggests that governments need to begin embedding strategic climate response into Defence policy. New collaborative and regional partnership frameworks will be necessary to handle localised climate related issues.
